Chronicles of album "Laison accoustique"

"Liaison Accoustique" album

"Eight solo saxophone pieces performed on alto, tenor and baritone saxophones.

Although the pieces have been improvised they eventually shape themselves into some kind of structures.

Thierry Maucci has a big, warm sound which flows with tremendous ease. Feelings and emotions are very important for his music.

The saxophonist delivers a passionate free jazz performance. Influenced by the extended techniques of  Evan Parker and the lyricism of  Louis Sclavis, Maucci's solos focus on emotion instead of power, which does not mean that the music gets syrupy or weak.

In "Encore Accords" he explores the extremes of the tenor sax's upper register, shredding notes and ears. In "Sons 2" he comes close to Ivo Perelman's fire mediated by a European temper.

The music evolves quite freely according to the changeable rhythms of saxophones.

This ceaseless round trip between the outside and the inside of the individual gives birth to a music particularly rich in its own experiences and interpretations.

The play solo practised by the saxophonist feeds on feelings which fill him with a lot of sincerity. The album is there only more charming".
